The Gift Project for Global Cardiovascular Health (GIVE), is a non-for-profit organization (501c3) that aims to improve global cardiovascular health by fostering partnerships among major academic medical centers, doctors, healthcare practitioners and leaders, businesses, governments, NGOs, and private citizens. GIVE provides free education to caregivers and educators in developing countries.

“Kids Save Lives” and similar projects have been endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO).  This highlights the importance of teaching CPR to school children around the globe.  Every year, around 4.25 million people around the world suffer an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA).

To put these numbers into context, this is equivalent to 11,643 deaths every day across the world: 23 full jumbo jets are crashing with no survivors every day.  Bystander CPR by lay people increases survival by two to three times, however, today it is delivered in only one in five OCHA cases.

If we could improve rates of bystander CPR to levels seen in the best-performing nations, then around 1.5 million lives could be saved each year around the world, particularly in developing countries such as Kosovo.
